Puerto Rico Fishing Guides
Capt. Dan Hack Is A Local Full-Time fishing guide operating out of Cabo Rojo, Aguadilla, and Rincon, Puerto Rico.
I am a native Floridian and fishing has been an integral part of my daily life since I was a teenager. Most of my fishing has been done in the offshore waters of Florida for pelagic fish, but I did manage to escape the state from time to time. Over the years, I've participated in a dozen international Marlin tournaments with prizes for the biggest fish that went up in the millions. Eventually, I wanted to turn toward unknown waters, and that's how I found my way to the island of Puerto Rico.
My goal is simple: I'd like to make enough life-long friendships with my clients that I'll never have to fish with a stranger when I retire, if I ever do!
I do my best to give you the most exciting fishing experience as possible. We'll fish the the Puerto Rican offshore waters near places like Desecheo island, the famous Bajo Cinco sea mountain. We'll cruise over the steep ledges, and wild reefs from Rincon to Cabo Rojo. We will hunt Wahoo, Mahi, Tuna, and reef species such as grouper, snapper and other toothy species!

Q&A With Puerto Rico Fishing Guide Capt. Dan Hack
Describe your fishing style.
I’m a jack of all trades. I like everything from deep water jigging, trolling, bottom fishing, live bait, ect. If there's water I'll catch a fish in it.
Why did you decide to become a guide?
It’s something that i had to do for me. I’ve tried other jobs but always missed the water.
Why did you choose Puerto Rico?
Puerto Rico was a beautiful accident. I did disaster relief after Hurricane Maria and fell in love here, with the place and a girl.
What is your most memorable catch?
A 407lb blue marlin that won us the 2016 St Maarten Billfish tournament.
What is your most memorable client catch?
I had a group of retired men that booked a boys trip offshore reef fishing. The morning of, only 5 of the 6 guys showed up. They said one of them had passed away suddenly after booking the trip a month ago. They all agreed to come and hoped to catch a Cobia in his honor. We caught a 70+ lb Cobia on the last stop of the day and the whole boat was filled with tears, cheers, and beers on the way home.
Do you enjoy fishing as much as you enjoy guiding?
I absolutely love to fish but it adds to the experience for me when i get to take someone else and teach them what I’ve learned. Especially beginners.
Who got you into fishing?
When i was a kid my dad bought me a little John boat, it was over from that point on. My uncles also had a lot of influence as well.
What is your favorite fish in the world to fish for?
I have always loved tarpon.
What is your dream fishing location?
I would love to fish in Western Africa, maybe the Congo or Cameroon.
Music or no music on the boat?
Music can change the mood which changes the luck factor.
What is your opinion of bananas?
They are gross but won’t stop me from catching a fish.
What can everyone do to help the environment of Western Puerto Rico?
Pick up some trash. One piece makes a difference!
